Product Description

A multi-use bag made from upcycling colorful rice bags.  A very roomy 16"x10"x8", you can use it as a gym or yoga bag, diaper bag, carry-on, beach bag, or weekend get-away bag. It's super-easy to clean--just wipe it with a damp cloth.

Handmade by Cambodian women who are human trafficking survivors.

The look is created from a vibrant recycled rice bag ~ turned inside out! This background provides the canvas on which the seamstresses create their colorful "freestyle" stitching wrapping the bag’s exterior including its twin handles.

  • Fully-lined in contrasting recycling material with matching exterior piping
  • Deep, very roomy interior
  • Interior zipper compartment
  • Two interior pockets for keys and cell phone
  • Firm, removable floor provides extra support
  • Full-length zipper with tabs at either end for closing ease
  • Sturdy box-stitched handles for hand-carry

Artist's Story:

This bag was made under the auspices of StopStart, an international relief organization that provides shelter, education, and jobs for trafficked and abused women in Cambodia. The organization employs about 40 women, many of whom have been rescued out of sexual trafficking.

Whether trafficked or not these women have suffered extreme emotional or physical abuse. Because of that reason, their names have been changed. Most of the women share common experiences, such as that of Srey. She was orphaned as a young child when her father sold her at a border camp to an old woman who physically abused her. She was then sold into prostitution.

Years later, she was given relief from her desperate conditions by the relief organization at its shelter. She was schooled in literacy, received health care, and later trained as a seamstress. Srey is now living a productive, healthy and free life. Your purchase helps continue these efforts for many more women like her.

  1. Great Bag!

Posted by Janet T Mason on 2nd Mar 2013

Love this bag. After I received it, I ordered another in a different color. Pretty sturdy and large and the material is not a loud and motley design but rather more subdued (both bags--just as shown online) which goes with everything. May have to go back and order a third!
