Artist's Story:
Women in war-torn Afghanistan are working hard to make a better life for themselves through crafting this beautiful jewelry for you. Madina Handicrafts Community (MHC) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) and non-political organization that's registered with the Ministry of Justice Government of Afghanistan. MHC's mission is to empower vulnerable and disabled women by promoting literacy, health education, life skills and basic business training to help them and their families become self-sustainable. Madina Handicrafts Community works with over 200 women, many of whom are disabled, in Kabul, Qarabagh and Wardak provinces in Afghanistan. It provides short term training programs in tailoring, handicrafts and jewelry design. Shaima Shafaq, the woman who hosts the Kabul workshop in her modest home, was shot by an Afghan soldier and was then inspired to create opportunities for other Afghan women who became victims of war.
