These warm and unique gloves are handmade by low-income women trained and employed by Kumbeshwar Technical School, a fair trade organization in Lalitpur, Nepal. It's made by an artisan like Rosie, who lives with her husband, 6-year-old son, father-in-law and brother-in-law. She learned about Kumbeshwar Technical School through a friend and joined their 3-month knitwear training program.
After completing her training, Rosie began to work as a home-based knitwear producer for the school. It's now been 16 years and she's very happy with her work and her fair wage.
Part of her income is helping to pay for her son's education. She's recently formed a knitting group with 5 of her neighbors to provide disadvantaged people in her community with useful skills and sustainable incomes.
